Kenchiku Note

Kenchiku Note N0.6 was released (It s already been out for a couple of months..).

It is a special issue for ‘studying architecture’, then I had a chance to write an article about architectural schools in Switzerland.

Thanks for many friends help, the article could bring some swiss flavor in this purely japanese architectural magazine (actually, except UCLA, whose dean is now Hitoshi Abe, japanese architect, all the other articles are about schools and offices in japan). I got some critiques from friends and what I missed is not writing about EPFL. I mentioned the name, but didn’t write more. I intended it, but I have to admit that it is not balanced. The reason I didn’t write it more is that there is no outstanding architect who studied there. But I hear the education and environment there are very nice. Students are more free collaborating in team whose members specializes different aspects of architecture, some are very technical, some are sociological, etc. It reminds me schools in Paris. For sure there are cultural similarity because of language. Actually many French profs are there whom you never find in ETH.

Revisited Ulm. Hochschule für Gestaltung was great. This time we could also see inside, which has characteristic lighting by different positions/sizes of windows, and  were amazed by combination of volumes and heights along the hill.
